Enhanced Privacy Protection for Online Banking
If you’re an online banking member, you are likely familiar with a security feature called Enhanced Login Security (ELS). ELS is a free and easy way to help protect your accounts from unauthorized online access. It identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing not only your password, but your computer as well.
While ELS has been an optional service for NIHFCU online banking members, it will become a mandatory feature on January 1, 2007. If you utilize online banking at another institution, you should encounter the same compulsory requirement. If not, we urge you to inquire about it as you will be taking on more than ordinary risk with your account relationships. NIHFCU fully realizes that some members may consider ELS an unnecessary requirement to access their accounts online. However, with the rapid growth of identity theft and the increased sophistication of fraudsters who perpetrate such crimes, ELS is an easy, important step that NIHFCU and you can take together for an even safer online banking experience. You can learn more about ELS in our Frequently Asked Questions. To sign up, follow these step-by-step instructions.
How does ELS work?
When you access your online account from a public computer or one that is not recognized as belonging to you, ELS will request that you verify your identity before access is granted. You will be asked to respond to three previoulsy self-selected challenge questions. Upon responding correctly, you will gain immediately access to your accounts.
If you are not an online banking member, now is the perfect time to check it out. With ELS, online banking has never been more secure and you’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing your online accounts will be protected from unauthorized computer access whether you are at home or on the go.
