Switch Kit

Opening an NIHFCU checking account is as easy as flipping a switch! Simply follow the three steps below to make the transition from your current checking account to an NIHFCU checking account. If you need help, call us or stop by any branch and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Step 1: Switch on Your NIHFCU Checking Account

Choose the checking account option that best meets your lifestyle and goals. Then, complete the Checking Account Application and return it to:

NIH Federal Credit Union
Attn: New Account Department
P.O. Box 6475
Rockville, MD 20849-6475

Please remember: To open a checking account, you must first establish your NIHFCU membership with a minimum deposit of $25 in a regular share account.

Step 2: Switch Over Your Automatic Transactions

After you receive your NIHFCU account number, and if you have any automatic transactions, fill out the Direct Deposit Form (PDF) and/or Automatic Withdrawals Form (PDF).

These forms will help you contact the companies and financial institutions that handle your automatic deposits and withdrawals. If you have more than one automatic transaction, simply fill out one form for each.

Step 3: Switch Off Your Old Account

Be sure to leave your old accounts active long enough to allow any outstanding checks and automatic withdrawals to clear (this process may take several weeks). Once you’re sure that the old accounts are inactive, send a Close Account Form (PDF) to your previous financial institution to terminate the account and receive any balances (don’t forget to then deposit it into your new NIHFCU account). Destroy your old checks, ATM/debit card and deposit slips.

You’re done! Congratulations on your new NIHFCU Checking Account. We hope you take advantage of all the benefits of your account including your Free Visa Check/ATM Card and Free Online Banking with Free Bill Pay – no hassles, no fees, no gimmicks!
