Enhanced Login Security

Enhanced Login Security (ELS) is a free and easy way to help protect your accounts from unauthorized online access. It identifies you as the true “owner” of your accounts by recognizing not only your password, but your computer as well.

On January 1, 2007, ELS became a mandatory feature for online banking. If you utilize online banking at another institution, you should encounter the same compulsory requirement. If not, we urge you to inquire about it as you will be taking on more than ordinary risk with your account relationships.

NIHFCU fully realizes that some members may consider ELS an unnecessary requirement to access their accounts online. However, with the rapid growth of identity theft and the increased sophistication of fraudsters who perpetrate such crimes, ELS is an easy, important step that NIHFCU and you can take together for a more secure online banking experience.

How Does it Work?
  • Members register their computer(s) on CU@Home – NIHFCU’s online banking system. Each time the member logs in to CU@Home from one of their registered computers, it will be recognized, and access to his/her account will be provided.
What if I try to log in to my account from a public or non-registered computer?
  • When you access your online account from a public computer or one that is not recognized as belonging to you, ELS will request that you verify your identity before access is granted. You will be asked to answer three previously self-selected questions in order to access your accounts.

What if I register for ELS but I am still being prompted for a passcode?

  • If the ELS does not work the first time it is added, go to User Options, select Enhanced Login Security, and add the ELS to the computer again. If the problem persists, contact NIHFCU.
What is the limit on the number of computers that can be registered to me?
  • At this time, there is no limit to the number of computers you can register.
Can I opt-out of this feature?
  • As of January 1, 2007, ELS will be mandatory due to requirements of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). Should you wish to opt-out of this feature, you will need to close out your online banking access.
What happens if I get locked out?
  • Please contact us at 301-718-0208 or 1-800-877-6440 to have access restored.
If I have additional questions, what do I do?
  • You can call us at 301-718-0208, 1-800-877-6440 or 301-881-5822 TDD/TTY. You can also send us an email

If you are not an online banking member, now is the perfect time to check it out! With ELS, online banking has never been more secure and you’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing your online accounts will be protected from unauthorized computer access whether you are at home or on the go.
