What is Android Pay?

Android allows you to pay for your purchases with your Android device by holding your phone near a contactless reader. You can also use your Android phone to pay within certain apps.

What do I need to get started?

  • You will need an Android phone running Kit Kat (4.4) or higher.
  • Make sure you are using a screen lock on your device
  • Your phone must support NFC (Near Field Communication) and HCE (Host Card Emulation).

To check for NFC, Follow these steps (steps may vary by device):

  1. On your Android phone, go to Settings.
  2. Touch More.
  3. Make sure "NFC" is listed and turned on.

When you turn on NFC, HCE is turned on automatically. HCE is available on most devices.

Which NIHFCU cards can I use with Android Pay?

You can use all NIHFCU personal and business Debit and Credit Cards with Android Pay.

Are my payments safe when using Android Pay?

Yes. Android Pay includes a number of unique security features to enable secure mobile payments. To make a one-touch payment using Android Pay, your fingerprint is needed to authenticate using Touch ID. In addition, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card to Android Pay, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in a dedicated secure chip on your Android device.

When you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. This means your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple with the merchant or transmitted with your payment.

You still enjoy all the benefits of your NIHFCU Debit or Credit Card, which includes our Zero Liability Policy that protects you from unauthorized purchases.

Is Android Pay free?

Yes. Please note that message and data charges from your wireless carrier may apply.
