Need help now? These CARES Act Programs Provide Financial Support

Payment relief and financial assistance are just a few of the emergency assistance programs available to the general public. 

Federal Student Loan Relief – CARES Act
The CARES Act has some major short-term implications for federal student loan borrowers like pausing federal student loan payments and interest through September 2020. Learn more  


Home Loan Payment Assistance – CARES Act
The CARES Act requires lenders to offer borrowers up to 180 days’ forbearance, with the option for borrowers to request an additional 180 days’ forbearance or to stop the forbearance at any time. Learn more


Medical Bill Payment Assistance – CARES Act
Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides help with paying medical costs for children of families who cannot afford health insurance or cannot obtain it through their employer. Learn more


Prescription Drug Cost Payment Assistance – CARES Act

Local health centers provide direct assistance to people in distress or with limited access to health care with assistance and referrals to other local organizations that may be able to help. To find a local health center

Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness
If you are a healthcare worker with federal student loan debt and work for a non-profit organization, such as a hospital, clinic, government agency, or school, you may be eligible for some form of student loan forgiveness. Learn more


Nurse Corps Student Loan Repayment Program
Many nurses are eligible to get up to 85 percent of their loans repaid through this program operated by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Learn more


Janet L. Hoffman Student Loan Assistance Repayment Program
Healthcare workers who work for Maryland state or local government, or nonprofit organizations that serve low income or underserved residents may be eligible. Learn more


Brave of Heart Fund
Designed to provide financial support in the form of charitable relief grants, this fund was created to support the families of healthcare workers who lose their lives to COVID-19. Learn more
