In addition to NIHFCU’s owned and operated branches and ATMs, members can visit our national network of over 5,000 shared branch locations and 30,000 surcharge-free cash dispensers!
Credit union members using an out-of-state ID at a shared branch location are required to complete a quick process to verify their identity before making withdrawals. ID Check is easy and aims to enhance protection against identity theft and fraud while keeping transactions simple and efficient.
On your cell phone and before your next shared branch visit, follow these steps:
1. Access this ID Check enrollment app: www.verify.coop.org
2. In the “Your Credit Union” field, start typing “National Institutes of Health” and once NIHFCU shows up, select us.
3. Where prompted, enter your account number, and the last four digits of your SSN.
4. Take photos of your government-issued ID. Follow the on-screen instructions. Grant camera access if necessary.
5. Take a selfie for verification.
6. Save your ID and photo to speed up future visits.
7. After the system authenticates your information, you will receive a 6-digit on-time passcode (it is valid for 20 minutes).
8. Show the code to the teller to complete your transaction.
Note: We encourage you to save your ID and photo. If you do, the next time you visit, you’ll receive your one-time passcode as soon as you scan the QR code at the shared branch location, skipping steps 2 through 6.

ITM transactions with our Video tellers commonly take less time than transacting in a branch with a traditional teller.
Not a problem. You can still use any of our ATMs without the video teller option for cash withdrawals and deposits (if available). Or, for other teller-assisted transactions, you can always visit any of our branches during normal business hours.
Your deposit will be processed in the same way, whether you transact with a traditional teller in a branch or a video teller at the ITM.
Similar to ATM functionality, the ITM function cannot accept or process coins.
The ITM will not dispense coins. For check cashing of an uneven amount, the ITM will automatically round-up to the nearest dollar and will dispense your bills accordingly.
For added privacy, the ITM will allow you to pick up a built-in handset for your conversation with the Video Teller. If you remain concerned about privacy, you can also choose to private chat with the video teller using a touchscreen keyboard.
Non-members can still visit any NIHFCU ATM for their cash withdrawal needs. However, the Video Teller functionality is only available for NIHFCU members.
The ITM will print out an image of the check to confirm its receipt.
Yes, the ITM is secure. The Video Tellers will use the same authentication procedure as our in-branch tellers before processing any transactions.
