Monitor Your Credit

Stay up-to-date without affecting your credit.

Many people worry that by checking their credit score too much they will see their score drop. Actually, using My Credit Rx to check your score is what is known as a “soft inquiry,” which does not affect your credit score. Lenders use “hard inquiries” to make decisions about your credit worthiness when you apply for loans.

My Credit Rx FAQs

Is there a fee for My Credit Rx?

No. My Credit Rx is an entirely complimentary feature inside online banking and our mobile app.

Will accessing My Credit Rx ‘ping’ my credit and potentially lower my credit score?

No. Checking My Credit Rx is a “soft inquiry”, which does not affect your credit score.  Lenders use ‘hard inquiries’ to make decisions about your credit worthiness when you apply for loans.

Does My Credit Rx offer credit report monitoring as well?

Yes. My Credit Rx will monitor and send email alerts when there’s been a change to your credit profile.

How often is my credit score updated?

Your credit score will be updated weekly and displayed in online banking or mobile app screen under “More tab.” You can click “refresh score” as frequently as every day for the most updated score.

Why doesn’t the APR rate in My Credit Rx match the actual rate on my loan (home, credit card, student, auto)?

In most instances, lenders do not report interest rate information on accounts to the credit bureaus, which is where My Credit Rx retrieves your information. To ensure we are providing you all of the info you need to be credit aware for all of your accounts, My Credit Rx reverse calculates an APR estimate based on loan payments and term information.

  • For home loans, additional charges such as escrow balances are missing causing the APR estimate to vary from actual.

  • For credit cards or student loans, the APR estimate may vary as these types of accounts have fluctuating payment amounts and are open-ended (no true maturity date).

  • You are free to edit the APR estimate at any time to reflect the actual APR. My Credit Rx will save the rate you input and display it for the life of the account.

Will NIHFCU use My Credit Rx to make loan decisions?

No, NIHFCU uses its own lending criteria for making loan.

If NIHFCU doesn't use My Credit Rx to make loan decisions, why do we offer it?

My Credit Rx can help you manage your credit so when it comes time to borrow for a big-ticket purchase—like buying a home, car or paying for college—you have a clear picture of your credit health and can qualify for the lowest possible interest rate. You’ll also see offers on how you can save money on your new and existing loans with NIHFCU.

Why is My Credit Rx not up-to-date with my most current balance on my credit cards?

It can take up to a month for all of your information to report to the credit bureaus. It depends on how often the companies you have your cards with report to the credit bureaus. Some companies only do this once a month. My Credit Rx is not an instantly accurate representation on accounts. Refreshing your account will show accurate information as long as it has been reported to the credit bureau.

What if the information provided by My Credit Rx appears to be wrong or inaccurate?

My Credit Rx makes its best effort to show the most relevant information from a credit report. If you think that some of the information is wrong or inaccurate, you can obtain a free credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com, and then dispute inaccuracies with each bureau individually. Each bureau has its own process for correcting inaccurate information, but every My Credit user can “File a Dispute” with Transunion by clicking on the “Dispute” link within My Credit. If the inaccuracy is verified, Transunion will then share this with the other bureaus.

How does My Credit Rx keep my financial information secure?

My Credit Rx uses bank level encryption and security measures to keep the data safe and secure. Your personal information is never shared with or sold to a third party.

There is a section on the site that features both NIHFCU product offers and financial education articles. Why am I seeing this?

Based on your My Credit Rx information, you may receive NIHFCU offers on products that may be of interest to you. In most cases, these offers may have lower interest rates than the products you already have. The educational articles are designed to provide helpful tips on how you can manage credit and debt wisely.
