Mobile Deposit FAQs

How much does it cost to use mobile deposit?

NIHFCU does not charge any fees for using the mobile deposit feature.

What types of checks can mobile deposit accept?

NIHFCU’s mobile deposit feature can accept most domestic personal, business and payroll checks. Mobile deposit does not support money orders, foreign checks, savings bonds, U.S. Treasury checks, traveler’s checks, or third-party checks. For more information on depositing these types of checks please visit a NIHFCU branch location.

Do I need to endorse my check for mobile deposit?

Yes. When you deposit a check using NIHFCU’s mobile deposit you must endorse it just like you would a standard deposit. Prior to using mobile deposit, remember to sign the back of your check in the appropriate area, and add “For NIHFCU Mobile Deposit Only” directly under your signature. Important: checks will not be processed if they do not have both of these clearly written on the back of the check.

Are there deposit limits?

Yes. Based on a variety of factors, there are daily and weekly limits to the amount of funds and the number of checks you can deposit using NIHFCU’s mobile deposit feature. If you would like to make a deposit that exceeds our deposit limits, please visit a branch location.

What should I do with my check after I complete a mobile deposit?

After you complete a mobile deposit, keep your check in a secure place until you receive confirmation that the deposit has been processed successfully and you have verified that the funds are present in your NIHFCU account. Once you have confirmed receipt of the funds, destroy the check.

Can I deposit more than one check at the same time?

No. NIHFCU’s mobile deposit only supports one check per deposit. However, you can deposit multiple checks separately in the same login session.

How will I know that my deposit was transmitted to NIHFCU?

Once your deposit has been transmitted, an on-screen confirmation will appear and a confirmation email will be sent to the email associated with your NIHFCU account. You will be notified by a second email when your deposit has been processed and approved or declined. An approved deposit will appear as a transaction in your account.

Why would a check deposit be declined?

There could be a number of reasons why a check deposit is declined, including:

  • The type of check isn’t eligible for deposit using NIHFCU’s mobile deposit

  • The same check was previously deposited (duplicate item)

  • It is missing the appropriate endorsements on the back of the check

  • The deposit exceeds your deposit limits for mobile deposit

  • The image quality of the check is poor

What should I do if I accidentally deposited the same check twice?

If mobile deposit detects a duplicate check, it will typically identify it and decline the deposit. Although there are processes in place to detect duplicate deposits, you are responsible for any duplicate checks you submit to NIHFCU.

What if I accidentally deposited a check to the wrong account?

Unfortunately, you can not switch accounts once a check has been submitted through mobile deposit. You can however, use the transfer option in NIHFCU’s Online or Mobile Banking to transfer the funds to another account once all of the deposited funds become available in your account.

Can I deposit a check with my mobile device if I do not have the NIHFCU mobile app?

No. To make a mobile check deposit you need to use the Deposit Check feature available only in the NIHFCU mobile app. Logging in to online banking through NIHFCU.org on your mobile device will not allow you to make a mobile deposit.

What type of mobile device do I need in order to use mobile deposit?

You’ll need a mobile device with a rear-facing camera and a minimum of 5 megapixel image capture  to deposit checks with the NIHFCU mobile app.

Is mobile deposit a secure method of depositing a check?

Yes, NIHFCU mobile deposit is protected by several forms of security, including encryption technology that protects your personal information. In addition, images of checks used for mobile deposit are not saved on your mobile device. As an extra layer of security, you should always lock your mobile device when it is not in use, and avoid saving passwords or other sensitive information on it.
