Common Questions

NIHFCU ATM cards were permanently deactivated on September 30, 2021. In its place you should have received a new NIHFCU Debit Rewards Card, providing the same access to your NIHFCU account but with more flexibility and security features.

Below is a list of common questions to prepare you for this change:

WHEN SHOULD I EXPECT TO RECEIVE MY NEW CARD?

  • Your new debit card was mailed to you and you should have received it no later than the week of September 13, 2021. 
    Once your new NIHFCU debit card arrives, please follow the activation instructions to begin using your new debit card immediately. You will then want to cut up/shred and properly dispose of your current NIHFCU ATM card.

  • If your new debit card is not received, please contact us at 1-800-877-6440.

CAN I STILL USE MY CURRENT ATM CARD AFTER I ACTIVATE MY NEW DEBIT CARD?

  • No, once your new debit card is activated, your current ATM card will be deactivated by the NIHFCU and it will no longer work.

  • Please activate and begin using your new debit card upon its receipt. Your current ATM card was permanently deactivated on September 30, 2021 regardless if you have activated your new debit card or not.

I AM HAPPY WITH MY CURRENT ATM CARD SO WHY IS NIHFCU DOING THIS?

Your new NIHFCU debit card provides a variety of important benefits and enhancements when compared to your current ATM card. This includes:

  • Enhanced security and fraud protection technology making it harder for your new debit card to be duplicated and used without your authorization.

  • Visa® Zero Liability protects you against unauthorized charges made with your account or account information. You’re protected if your debit card is lost, stolen or fraudulently used, online or offline (subject to certain restrictions).

  • In case of card loss or theft, you can immediately block or unblock your new debit card using Card Controls inside online banking.

  • Use your new debit card at the ATM to withdraw cash just as you do now. Link your debit card to an NIHFCU checking account and you can also use it to make purchases at any place Visa is accepted. You’ll also earn rewards points with each purchase redeemable for cash, gift cards, merchandise and more.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR THIS CHANGE?

All you need to do is activate your new debit card when it is received and destroy/safely discard your current ATM card.  However, to ensure that your new debit card is received and to avoid a temporary interruption in account access, we highly recommend confirming that all your NIHFCU contact information is up to date as possible. To do this:

  • Log in to online banking, select the “Settings” widget and then click “Contact.” Review and then update your information, if needed. Or,

  • Speak to any branch or call center representative, Or,

  • On our website, go to nihfcu.org/forms-disclosures to print and send us a contact change form or to submit using our e-form portal.
